Lucy Hatfield, a psychiatric nurse, comes back to Los Caballos, her Aunt Moira’s mental health hospital, to find one of the patient’s has been murdered. Before she’d left to take care of her sick mother, she’d quarreled with Dr. Spence McNamara, the psychotherapist and her lover. The two decide to try and discover on their own who murdered the wealthy woman. Before her death she had told them her marriage was failing. Their search takes them from San Juan Capistrano to Lake Tahoe, where the wealthy woman had lived in a mansion called “Hawk’s Lair”. Now they must match wits with the woman’s charismatic husband and possessive showgirl mistress.

Marie Sparks latest romance/mystery is part of the Swallows Series, and, as with the others, is a very good read. Tension comes from at least two sources, if not more--the murder of an elderly woman in a rest home and the relationship between the main character, Lucy, and her love, Spence. In their united quest to find information about the murder, they seek answers in one of the gaming centers in Nevada--Reno. The evidence has driven them there. We, of course, are curious what these two will find. Will they find information leading to the perpetrator and will they find a solution to their hesitancy about each other, particularly Lucy's resistance to surrendering herself to love? Can she trust Spence with her heart? It is a story of accepting love and a story of mystery. As with any good story, it is a good read.Product details
